Project Overview

Client: M-Group
Sector: Highways & Infrastructure
Location: Clare Footbridge, Helpston Road, Glinton, PE6 7JZ
Duration: 3 weeks

The Project

Clare Footbridge in the village of Glinton, Cambridgeshire, is a 116-metre pedestrian bridge that provides an important walking and cycling link for the local community. When M-Group required specialist works to resurface and repair the bridge, they appointed PGR Construction drawing on our previous working relationship and confidence in our ability to deliver a technically demanding project with minimal disruption to the public.

The scope of works included full resurfacing of the bridge deck (116.3m x 2.0m), repairs to existing timber fencing, and installation of new pedestrian guard railing. The surfacing element of the works required careful scheduling: to maintain public access to the bridge throughout the day, all surfacing works were completed at night, with other repair and installation activity carefully managed during daylight hours around pedestrian movements

Delivering Around the Community

Night working of this nature requires disciplined programme management, experienced operatives and robust traffic and pedestrian management arrangements. PGR’s team coordinated the works to ensure the bridge remained open during the day, with no disruption to pedestrian and cycle users beyond the necessary temporary safety measures during the works themselves.

Sustainability

In line with our environmental commitments, energy-efficient welfare facilities from Reactive Hire were used on site throughout the project, reducing the environmental footprint of our site operations.

Outcome

The project was completed on time and to specification. The relationship with M-Group is an ongoing one, built on consistent delivery and mutual trust — and this project is a strong example of the kind of technically straightforward but operationally complex works that PGR does well.
