Project Overview

PGR have undertaken a new drainage scheme involving the installation of a 500m drainage run through the village of Chesterton, near Peterborough.

At the outset of this project, the proposal was to root cut and clean out an existing pipe running along Oundle Road. However, due to the poor state of the old pipe this wasn’t possible and would only worsen again over the coming years. As a result, Cambridgeshire County Council made the decision to install brand new drainage systems, gullies and manholes within the carriageway to prevent standing water and localised flooding.

PGR Construction were involved in:

• Installation of 500m drainage run including 11 catch pits and 18 new gullies
• Ditch clearance along the westbound side of the carriageway
• New ACO drains installed across a number of driveways
• Re-surfacing of the eastbound carriageway
• Paco patching of all 11 new catch pits
• New line marking and studs along the road

PGR Construction were appointed by the M Group and this drainage infrastructure improvement scheme in Chesterton was completed on time.

Improved drainage infrastructure

Cambridge County Council maintain thousands of kilometres of drains on behalf of their communities. The new drainage scheme on the Oundle Road in Chesterton was a much needed upgrade involving a complete replacement of the existing drainage pipes and gullies.

Over a period of 18 weeks, PGR worked closely with the M Group and valued supply chain partners to install the new drainage run, with minimum disruption to the local residents.
